The focus of the water resource management initiative is to assess, mitigate and prevent nonpoint source pollution of Dauphin County's water. This program fosters water resource stewardship by providing background information regarding the management and quality of Dauphin County's surface and groundwaters.

As one of the conservation district's most recently established programs, the water resources program places the conservation district at the forefront of providing technical assistance to municipal officials, watershed organizations and the public. Unlike most other programs administered by the conservation district, the water resources program was not developed under guidelines established by state or federal agencies, but by an initiative established by our directors and staff.

One aspect of this program is to educate and inform teachers, students, local government officials, private citizens, and environmental organizations about local water resource issues. This may involve the collection, analysis and interpretation of water quality monitoring data in order to provide for a more comprehensive understanding of Dauphin County's watersheds.
